Expert Advice: How To Refresh Your Kitchen

Nisrine Moghraby, the Founder of Harf Noon Design Studio, shows us how to give your kitchen a fresh new look, without spending a fortune.

Kitchens are the heart of the home, but they’re also one of the most neglected rooms in the house. While we all dream of a full remodel, a refresh is something we can all achieve. Nisrine Moghraby, an interior designer and Founder of Harf Noon Design Studio, believes that you can make-over your kitchen with just some clever styling. “It’s especially important to keep your kitchen looking on-point if your home is open plan,” she says. Here, she shares her ideas on how to give your kitchen a sophisticated overhaul, without sacrificing style or budget.

1. A Blank Slate

I like to start by organizing my cupboards. Then, clear everything from the worktops and counters, so you have a clean space to work with.

2. Define Space

Use trays or boards to create separate spaces or stations. For example, I used a large, wooden cheeseboard as the foundation for my coffee station.

3. Coffee Corner

Coffee corners are a fun and functional addition to any kitchen. Select a spot away from the busiest section of the room and start with the larger items like your coffee machine. Add a cool container for your coffee pods and a mini vase to keep teaspoons, so everything is easily accessible.

4. Bring The Outdoors In

Whether real or faux, adding a few green touches to your kitchen will give you a serious boost. While real plants will breathe life and vitality into your space, if your kitchen doesn’t get much sunlight, stick with faux plants because they’ll have the same effect.

5. When Life Gives You Lemons

Accessories will brighten your kitchen in an instant. For kitchens, I love using lemons. They add a sharp pop of color to any space, plus they feel fresh and relevant. Group lemons together in glass vases of varying heights to create an intriguing focal point.

6. Scent-Sational

Scented candles are perfect for the kitchen, especially after cooking. Personally, I love Lava’s Shell Candles because they are a stylish nod to nature.

7. Art Attack

Add personality with some eye-catching wall art. You can even use them to hide unsightly plugs you don’t need to use. Top Tip: black and white art makes greenery really pop!
